I am often asked why it is that I write fantasy and science fiction. Certainly, it is a less profitable genre then say regular fiction or really just about any literary pursuit. But then writing is hardly a pursuit someone should get into for the money.

Anyway, my usual answer is that any book that doesn’t have a dragon in it could probably be greatly improved by the appearance of one. The world deserves a bit of the fantastic. I think that we all have our own drudgery and greyness and I rarely am interested in reading to much about it let alone write about it. Fantasy is often metaphor and symbolism but its also just a lot of fun. I want the world in my head to be stranger then it has any right to be.

Of course there’s something to be said for the quiet human moments that we all have, or hope to have everyday. But then why not have that moment with a dragon? Well. To each their own.

So, we come back to JUNO. And so its without a doubt that this world will be magical. I will infuse wonder and majesty into every atom of it so long as I’m breathing.

I believe that this world will have levels of magic. From the creatures that exist within it to the technologies that the sentient races of JUNO will be making after we get around to making them up. But like most things it’s helpful to start out at the source, and to get there I’ve involved another practitioner of the mystic arts, Mr. C.R. Rowenson.

We had a moment of time to sit down and work out the base magic of JUNO using his new blueprint for magic systems.
