I've been disappointed recently with books that are nearly universally loved. The Classics have been a list of novels with dated dialogue and plot structures that itch with miles and miles of telling. 

its nice to find one that lives up to the hype. The Lies of Locke Lamora is one of the greatest fantasy novels I've ever read. Presented in the first quarter novel as an excellent heist story, the book twists itself around the amazing magical world that it actually inhabits. 

With a fresh spread of side character the novel keeps it fresh, never wallowing to long with a single character and the long list of bad things that move the story along at a great pace. Somehow that also includes a sub plot in the form of a series of flashbacks. A trick I'm usually dreading like an episode of Arrow, in this series it's so well integrated and dependent with the main plot that I don't see how you could have this novel without it. 

For real, go read this book. The Lies of Locke Lamora gets five stars out of five.
